Snowboarding in Méribel…

Snowboard Trip 1…?

I have just got back from an excellent week snowboarding in Méribel, having only been boarding for 4 years this is only my 4th trip away… (i’m one of those annoying people that pick things up quickly…) A group of us stayed in a catered chalet called La Fourmi, this was located about 10 minutes walk from Meribel centre… but the best bit was that the Morel chair lift was only a stones throw away… although with tired legs on day 4 this feels like miles… But for those that arrive early on change over day, you’ll be pleased to know that the Morel Chair lift is Free!!!! -no need to break into that six day 3 valley pass… and actually proved to be a pretty decent free chair, with a fairly long run to get you back… also ideal for getting the legs back upto speed ready to charge the mountains the rest of the week…

Having heard about the sad news that Michael Schumacher had a very serious accident off piste on the slopes of Meribel, pretty much confirmed the thoughts that i should really be boarding with a helmet, especially considering my love of going off piste and into the backcountry in search of the fresh powder… the only problem was finding and getting a helmet that i liked…

Enter the Ruroc Helmet, those of you that watch Formula 1 may have seen this helmet without even knowing it… as now most of the teams pit crews wear them! check out www.ruroc.com for the range that they do… this is me in mine below…

The snow conditions at the beginning of the week weren’t great, as despite the Alps getting a good dump of snow in late November, early December; the rest of December suffered with a lack of snow, added to the mild conditions the first couple of days were more like spring conditions with the snow melting in the afternoon sun… but thanks to a 20cm plus dump of fresh snow on the Tuesday night the slopes where in great condition…! especially as not all of them had been groomed, making for an excellent powder day…! With this being topped up on the Thursday with a smaller dump made for quite a varied but awesome time away…

With two of us taking Gopro’s and getting quite a lot of footage, i will be putting together a little video montage at some point… (just need to get to grips with final cut pro!)

Really need to go away again too… so we shall see whether this happens…!
