Rush to ZigZag…

We all need toys…

Earlier this year I bought a Kit car which has been long time goal of mine, although the original goal was to actually build a kit car from scratch… The one I bought would was exactly how how had planned to build mine,  I followed Ash (who I bought the car from) build it with an epic build thread on the DAX Forum.
Here if your interested = Rush Build So Far…

I wasn’t planning on purchasing a car and hadn’t been on the DAX forums in a while to check out the build thread, but when I did I noticed that Ash had the car up for sale… queue dilemma and whether or not I should do it, after all half the fun of having the kit car is the build process…

I decided that I could always tinker (and plan to) (updates will be posted here) with the car and try to add my own stamp on it, and I really didn’t have the space or time to build one… so a deal was done and I became the proud owner…

Spec Highlights…

  • Dax Rush MC -Lightweight round tube chassis,
  • CBRxx 1100 Super Blackbird Engine with 6 speed sequential gearbox,
  • kliktronic, Electronic shift with steering wheel mounted paddles,
  • It’s bright Orange and turns heads…
  • About 500kgs and 150bhp = around 300BHp/Tonne = Bloody quick!

Rite of Passage…

On collecting the car on a bank holiday Friday… for those reading this from the UK you will perhaps agree that this wasn’t the best time to pick it up… especially as it was very wet out… (car pretty much runs slicks…) What entailed was an epic 6 hour journey to get it to the New Forest. Some distance of which was spent in 3rd gear as the fuse for the kliktronic electronic shift control, (Flappy Paddle) kept blowing…

I Spent the evening and the next morning trying to look for what could be causing the fuse to blow and went through half a dozen fuses in the process… I then decided to take the dash off to get a better look at the loom… not really what you want to be doing having just purchased the car… but then this is a kit car! I finally managed to trace the fault to the kliktronic controller box and notice that one of the wires was snagged under the a washer that secures the scuttle panel… wire released, I noticed it had a fray! result, as this was obviously causing the short… little bit of electrical tape and yet another 5 amp fuse and I was back in business!

Summer Fun…

My plan was to have some fun and enjoy the car over the Summer and do any tinkering over the winter… and Fun I had… this car is amazing… so fast…

I have a GOPRO which I have been collecting various footage on, and even spent a whole day filming on some very good local roads… of which this video is comprised of shots from ZIG ZAG Hill in Dorset near Shaftsbury…

Whats Next…?

Now that summer and the fun is over, I’m now planning what to do over the Winter… thoughts are…

  • Accusump install to provide extra support to the baffled and shortened sump,
  • Trip to the Nurburgring next summer,
  • Create a carbon rear diffuser,
  • Create a carbon front splitter,
  • Re-program the Megasquirt ECU for ignition as well as Fuel,
  • get out in it again should the weather be OK… 😉

Updates…

Will keep you posted about these… any of the winter projects will end up on here…
