Making Money With Porn…

Part 1. Research & Planning

The Idea…

You may already have some idea about this project of mine from reading some of my other blog posts about how I came to this point, well if you didn’t (please do..) here’s a brief description of why I’m creating my own Porn Site…

My friend whom I have already mentioned in a previous post has a successful string of sites, videarn.com, imagearn.com, and fileearn.com; my premise was simple, can I duplicate the video his streaming site videarn and earn some extra income? Yes I know this isn’t very innovative, but of the sites I have seen, videarn is pretty unique in allowing it’s uploaders to have two advertising banners in which to generate an income from; and being relatively new to the market I thought that this would help in generating traffic?

The rest of this post is a realisation of this idea and all the steps taken from that initial Idea to getting the Site live. –I plan to add follow up posts about various SEO steps I have taken and generating more traffic for the site.

The Goals… and Questions…

Whilst the idea rattled around my brain, from is this a pipe dream, it’ll be too hard, to… think of the money, it’ll be a good challenge. I thought I better at least lay down some questions, guides, goals or targets to help me achieve in the creation of the site. (I’m all about lists!)

  • Want to duplicate videarn.com.
  • Put my own spin on the design.
  • Do it as cheaply as possible.
  • Are there any cheap existing scripts that can do what I want?
  • If there are any scripts, are they any good? –and are they cheap?
  • How do I get any modifications done, can I get quotes?
  • What do I do about the design, I know Photoshop so can I do it? –and how?
  • Need to come up with an available domain name that may be appropriate.
  • Hosting, where what and how?
  • When do I do it? -I have a full time job.
  • When do I want this completed?

Research…

Having come up with the questions with what steps I needed to take, I thought the best place to start would be to tackle the research of running and creating a site; as this is what would form the foundation of the site, and everything would be build or added on top of this.

I spent a long time browsing the web looking for info on Porn Sites, specifically tube sites and how they run; I also tried to find out what Videarn was running to save time but couldn’t (yes, I could have asked my friend but as I explained in a previous post, I didn’t want him to know yet!) so it was during this research that I decided that a ready built tube script (or Clone Scripts) would be the cheaper and easier option for what I wanted to achieve. –in doing this meant the core feature these scripts had to have was “User Monetisation” option, as this key to duplicating the Videarn site.

One of the first sites I found and looking at was www.adultvideoscript.com this seemed very promising to me as looking through the features and the basic design it was the best I’d come across so far; I think one of the things that I was most sold on initially was the potential hosting It provided as a side to help get you up and running, the only thing it didn’t have was the “User Monetisation”; at this stage I thought that would be fine and that it could be easily added due to the apparent flexibility of the AVS script. Not knowing a lot about PHP at the time I did not know what was required in implementing this feature if it didn’t exist, so I therefore continued looking; the AVS site gave me a good point of reference so I started googling further and even using AdultvideoScript in the searches to see if it showed any reviews or other suggestions…

One of the search results pulled up the following site with this post PHP VideoScripts/YouTube Clones Mega Review this was exactly what I was looking for; something to explain the relative benefits of each script and the cost for various features.

I also found these two scripts www.mechbunny.com and www.kernel-video-sharing.com whilst probably the most professional of all the scripts available, they were way out of my price range as not only were the scripts expensive, but all the additional work would have been extra too… maybe one day? So along with the other scripts that would need additional PHP coding for the features I wanted, they therefore fell under “requires more consultant work” and subsequently dropped from choice.

Chosen Script…

After lots of deliberation the site and script I decided to use was Adult Script Pro from, funnily enough www.adultscriptpro.com This site had a good balance of features, plus the core need of having “User Monetisation” although out of the box this only supports one User Advertisement Banner, but I thought that this was better than having no system in place to do this, thus requiring less PHP coding work to implement than other scripts.

The Demo of which can be found here Adult Script Pro Demo

The cost for the script was $199, I didn’t bother with any of the other options as they were not needed for the plans I had. And assumed that either I could install and setup the server or get the consultant to do this along with the additional coding work.

With the script decided I now knew what I could use from the script and build up a list of what else would need to be coded. –it also meant I needed to come up with a domain name, and could start the design work…

Dirtybadger.com…

Coming up with a Domain Name with what to choose and is it available; this must be what many people starting sites come up against nowadays, as trying to pick a unique catchy name that hasn’t been taken becomes increasingly difficult; (and doing so without potentially infringing the rights of others! Microsoft’s SkyDrive being the latest casualty) then depending on the name, purchasing it without spending over the odds! –makes this process quite tricky!

For a long time most of my thoughts on the hours commute was taken up thinking of an appropriate name, with various different versions running around my head, but in hindsight coming up with dirtybadger.com should have been slightly easier, as long before I had started the process for creating a porn site, my girlfriends flatmates where using the phrase “dirty-badger” to describe people or actions that; shall we say “wrong”, slightly “perverted” or just “dirty”… so, one day whilst on the drive home; I thought that dirtybadger would make a great domain name for a porn site… I initially discounted the idea as ideally I’d want a .com domain and the chances that it was available would be slim to none; but thought I would at least check on returning home.

On checking, it was no surprise to find that the domain searches showed it taken, so was a little disheartened, as it would have a great site name; as it was taken I thought I’d at least see what the content on the page as it could be useful. On putting in the URL www.dirtybadger.com the landing page actually advertised that this domain was parked and registered with Domain Names International, but no actual content! I thought then that I would just whois the domain to get a bit more info and to see when it would expire; (wasn’t giving up hope just yet!) going to www.who.is and looking up dirtybadger.com, did as I was expected and showed me protected whois info with a Domain Names International contact address, I actually can’t remember if the domain had expired or was about to? But being new at this I just sent an enquiry email to the sales address saying that the whois data didn’t show any useful data, and could they advise as to whether the domain was available or had been parked…

Let the negotiations begin…! The email I received back said that they were using the URL but that it could be sold and what was I thinking as far as price? Ok I thought, how do I go about submitting a low price that is likely to get accepted without costing the earth, i have been using the site www.statshow.com to give me a good indication of sites stats and worth for a while, so simply put in dirtybadger.com to get an idea of traffic to the site and an estimated worth. I then went back to the sales team with an offer of $20 as the site had virtually no traffic coming to it.

Not surprisingly this offer was declined, as they were unable to submit an offer that low! –change of tack needed then. This was quickly responded to with “what would be deemed and acceptable offer”? It turns out that the lowest offer the system they were using would accept was $97 –odd but ok… $97 wasn’t that much, better than $500+ dollars I’d seen other premium domains going for at least.

Offer submitted for $97, Result! Now the proud owner of www.dirtybadger.com –possibly a little more than I could actually have got it for, as it turns out the domain was about to expire, but being new at all this I now consider this as a valuable learning experience all things considered, and something that I wouldn’t (and actually managed to avoid) let happen again…

What Next…?

Well, with most of the research done, script chosen, and domain purchased. The next step and the next post will be all about the design and development…. See you there…

I think that you need to publish more on this issue,

talk about such issues. To the next! All the best!!

However, think about this, what if you added a little information? I mean, I
don’t want to tell you how to run your website, however what if you added a post title that grabbed a person’s attention? I mean Making Money With Porn is kinda plain. You
should look at Yahoo’s home page and see how
they create article headlines to grab people interested.
You might add a video or a related pic or two to get readers excited about what you’ve written. In my opinion, it would
make your posts a little bit more interesting.
